One of the three lakes which lie in the Buttermere valley, Loweswater is not quite as
picturesque as its neighbours Crummock Water and
Buttermere.
Small, shallow and less well-known than most of the lakes, Loweswater is unique in that it is the only lake in the Lake District that flows towards the centre of Lakeland.
Located to the west of Keswick, the reeds and lily pads along the shores are a habitat for many insects and birds. Loweswater possesses a high aspect giving good views of the surrounding fells, and walkers can approach the lake through beautiful shoreline forest.
